Questions:

1. What do the stars say to main in the first two lines?

Ans: In the first two lines, the stars tell man that God had given  him the light of reason but he chose the path of destruction. He has put humanity to disgrace. He has become cruel and heartless.

2. Nature had fashioned you to apportion love and affection

But you took to buying and selling religion and faith instead

Explain these lines.

Ans: In these lines the poet explains that nature had made man to share love and affection among his fellow-beings. But instead of spreading love, man began to made religion and faith for personal gain. Thus, he forgets the true purpose for which he was created. 

3. Why is man described as a serpent?

Ans: Nature gave all its gifts freely to man and expected him to share them equally with others. But man kept these gifts only for himself. He guarded them selfishly like a snake sitting over its treasure.

4. "That which you call awakening is a stupefying hangover". Why?

Ans: Man feels proud of his love for religion, but this love often makes him hate people of other religions. He worships God in words, but in real life he follows evil ways. He has forgotten his true human values. That is why the poet calls man's awakening nothing but a stupefying hangover. 

5. Do you think the poem is a wake-up call? Explain?
Ans: Yes, the poem is a wake-up call. Through this poem, the stars try to make man realize his duties and responsibilities on earth. They remind him of his true purpose and show him how his wrong actions have brought shame to humanity. Man is lost in selfishness and false beliefs. The poet urges him to wake up from this dream and become kind and humane towards his fellow beings.

The poem is addressed to man. The poet tells Man that he was the light of reason but he put humanity to disgrace. Nature had provided him with treasures of bounties to share them equitably but he sat serpent-like on them. His heart is restlessly vibrating and his vision is clouded by fantasies. In his own garden he cut the roots while watering twigs and leaves. He has ransacked and ravaged his own home.
