Poem Translation
The quality of mercy is not strain’d,दया का स्वभाव ज़बरदस्ती नहीं होता।
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
यह आकाश से गिरने वाली हल्की वर्षा की तरह बरसती है।
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;
नीचे की धरती पर गिरती है और यह दो बार धन्य करती है।
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
यह देने वाले को भी आशीर्वाद देती है और पाने वाले को भी।
’Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
यह सबसे शक्तिशाली लोगों में भी सबसे शक्तिशाली गुण है।
The throned monarch better than his crown;
यह किसी राजा को उसके ताज से भी अधिक महान बनाती है।
His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
उसका राजदंड सांसारिक शक्ति को दर्शाता है।
The attribute to awe and majesty,
यह भय और राजसी वैभव का प्रतीक है।
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
जिसके कारण लोग राजाओं से डरते हैं और भय खाते हैं।
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
लेकिन दया इस राजदंड वाली शक्ति से भी ऊपर है।
It is enthroned in the heart of kings,
यह राजाओं के हृदय में विराजमान होती है।
It is an attribute to God Himself;
यह स्वयं ईश्वर का गुण है।
And earthly power doth then show like God’s
और जब सांसारिक शक्ति दया से जुड़ती है तो वह ईश्वरीय लगती है।
When mercy seasons justice.
जब दया न्याय को कोमल और मानवीय बना देती है।
