DEGREES OF COMPARISON

Degrees of Comparison are used to compare one thing with another based on quality or quantity.

There are three degrees of comparison:

1. Positive Degree (साधारण रूप)
It shows the simple quality of a noun without any comparison.
Example: Ram is tall. (राम लंबा है।)

2. Comparative Degree (तुलनात्मक रूप)
It is used to compare two persons or things.
Usually formed by adding -er to the adjective or using more before it.
Example: Ram is taller than Shyam. (राम श्याम से लंबा है।)

3. Superlative Degree (सर्वोत्कृष्ट रूप)
It is used to show that one person or thing is better than all others.
Formed by adding -est to the adjective or using most before it.
Example: Ram is the tallest boy in the class. (राम कक्षा में सबसे लंबा लड़का है।)

Regular Adjectives (Add -er and -est)

1. Tall (लंबा) → Taller → Tallest
2. Fast (तेज़) → Faster → Fastest
3. Clean (साफ़) → Cleaner → Cleanest
4. Small (छोटा) → Smaller → Smallest
5. Big (बड़ा) → Bigger → Biggest
6. Long (लंबा) → Longer → Longest
7. Bright (चमकीला) → Brighter → Brightest
8. Strong (मज़बूत) → Stronger → Strongest
9. Young (जवान) → Younger → Youngest

Adjectives Ending in -y (Change -y to -ier, -iest)

1. Pretty (सुंदर) → Prettier → Prettiest
2. Messy (गंदा/बेतरतीब) → Messier → Messiest
3. Lazy (आलसी) → Lazier → Laziest
4. Funny (मज़ेदार) → Funnier → Funniest
5. Shiny (चमकीला) → Shinier → Shiniest
6. Grumpy (चिड़चिड़ा) → Grumpier → Grumpiest
7. Noisy (शोरगुल वाला) → Noisier → Noisiest
8. Dry (सूखा) → Drier → Driest
9. Breezy (तेज़ हवा वाला) → Breezier → Breeziest

10. Happy (खुश) → Happier → Happiest  

Adjectives Ending in -e (Add -r and -st)

1. Simple (सरल) → Simpler → Simplest
2. Nice (अच्छा) → Nicer → Nicest
3. Safe (सुरक्षित) → Safer → Safest
4. Large (बड़ा) → Larger → Largest
5. Wise (बुद्धिमान) → Wiser → Wisest

Adjectives Using 'More' and 'Most'

1. Polite (विनम्र) → More polite → Most polite
2. Peaceful (शांत) → More peaceful → Most peaceful
3. Famous (प्रसिद्ध) → More famous → Most famous
4. Important (महत्त्वपूर्ण) → More important → Most important
5. Interesting (दिलचस्प) → More interesting → Most interesting
6. Beautiful (सुंदर) → More beautiful → Most beautiful
7. Intelligent (बुद्धिमान) → More intelligent → Most intelligent
8. Comfortable (आरामदायक) → More comfortable → Most comfortable
9. Expensive (महँगा) → More expensive → Most expensive
10. Generous (उदार) → More generous → Most generous
11. Dangerous (खतरनाक) → More dangerous → Most dangerous
12. Creative (रचनात्मक) → More creative → Most creative

Irregular Adjectives

1. Good (अच्छा) → Better → Best
2. Bad (बुरा) → Worse → Worst
3. Far (दूर) → Farther/Further → Farthest/Furthest
4. Little (थोड़ा) → Less → Least
5. Much (अधिक) → More → Most
6. Many (अनेक) → More → Most
7. Old (पुराना) → Older → Oldest
8. Young (जवान) → Younger → Youngest
9. Late (देर से) → Later → Latest
10. Near (निकट) → Nearer → Nearest

Optional Forms

1. Clever (चतुर) → Cleverer / More clever → Cleverest / Most clever
